Theories of aging.
Currently, several theories attempt to explain the origin of this process.
The genetic theories advancing the existence of a number of genes whose activation or repression would may start the cellular aging.
The error theory argues that a first error introduced all inside of the cells and not repaired would be the starting point for a succession of errors.
Environmentalist theory incriminates the role of free radicals on the integrity of cellular components (proteins, DNA, lipids).
The theory of the mitotic clock finally puts forward the progressive loss of the ends of chromosomes (telomeres) as stop signal of cells life .
These theories remain to be explored to find the cellular targets and the system to slow aging.
Chronological age and apparent age.
Dermatologists, are particularly interesting about skin aging because the skin defends the body lying at the interface between the exterior and the interior of the organism.
This means that we have an chronological age and an apparent age. Between the two there is sometimes an important difference. The chronological aging affects the whole body, in the skin, it is estimated on the areas covered, not exposed to sunlight.
The apparent age, is the difference between chronological aging, in the part of the body no sun exposed and photoaging that is evaluated on sun-exposed areas, like face, neck and arms.
The clinical signs associated with chronological aging appear late, while the marks caused by ultraviolet rays often produce a terrible photoaging and we look older we are.
